Darts Events Near Birmingham: What's On and Where

Birmingham loves its darts, but the biggest nights rarely happen in the city centre. The arena tours visit once or twice a year at arena prices, the pub leagues are for playing rather than watching, and the interactive darts bars are a game, not a show. The live darts room the area actually rocks up to is ten minutes up the road.

What counts as a proper darts event?

The gold standard is a live darts exhibition: professional players on a real stage, walk-on music, a compere, fan games, and meet and greets you'd never get at an arena. It's the TV darts atmosphere shrunk into a room where every seat is close enough to hear the board.

The Midlands' liveliest darts night: Throwdown, Dudley

Throwdown runs live darts nights at the Copthorne Hotel, Merry Hill, about 20 minutes from central Birmingham off the M5. The format is unique in the area: darts content creators with millions of combined followers take on world class professionals, live, one match after another. Former World Champion Luke Humphries has headlined. The reigning European Champion Gian van Veen headlines on 26 September, Daryl Gurney lands on Halloween, and Adrian Lewis headlines the Christmas party on 6 December.

  • Prices: adults £25, under 14s £20, plus a small booking fee. A fraction of arena prices.
  • Times: doors 6pm to throw darts and meet the players, show 7:30pm.
  • Who can come: everyone. All ages, families welcome, fancy dress encouraged.
  • Getting there from Birmingham: M5 to junction 2, then ten minutes to Merry Hill. On-site parking at the hotel.

Make a night of it

The Copthorne is a hotel, so out-of-towners can stay over and make a weekend of it. And if you want to know exactly what you're walking into, this two minute video inside a Throwdown night answers it better than any write-up.
